SYSTEM IMPLEMENTATION
SECURITY ALARM CONTROL PANEL
A security system starts with a control panel. Usually located in a closet or a basement, the control panel contains the “brains” of the security system, and essentially operates as a central computer. Various sensors connect to the control panel from locations throughout your home. If your security system is armed and the sensors detect a problem, they send signals to the control panel. The control panel automatically dials Criticom Monitoring Service Station, where the proper authorities are notified. It also contains a backup battery in order to provide protection even with the loss of electrical power to the premise.
CENTRAL STATION MONITORING
Enhanced Digital Systems are all monitored locally by Home Security Management Co. in Stowe, VT www.hsmc-ul.com or Nationally Criticom Monitoring Services https://cmsn.com of which have three UL listed disaster recovery centers across the US to ensure your signal gets through no matter what. All signals from our systems communicate to the central station with either a home phone line, the Internet or through a wireless Cellular Back Up. Criticom Monitoring Services then determines the action required depending on the signal received whether it is an actual alarm, trouble condition or as a log only event. In the event of an alarm, the premise is called, if there is no answer, the proper authorities are dispatched, and then a procedure to call down a list of predetermined contacts decided by the customer at the time of installation.
The security system keypad has a numeric touch-pad and a corresponding LCD display. These are typically mounted at any main entry door and / or 2nd floor or bedroom where is needed to interface with the system and arming functions. This device will also notify you of the alarm that is happening or of any troubles with the system. A chime feature can easily be toggled on or off by a user to notify you of any perimeter doors or windows that are opened when the system is disarmed.
WIRELESS KEY
Add a wireless remote control key to your security system. A hot item that fits right on your keychain and can be used as an emergency button.
SIRENS
If an intruder tries to break-in, the sound of the siren will emit that lets intruders and your family know that the security system has been triggered.
MOTION DETECTION
Pros: Cost effective and easy installation.
Cons: Pets can be a problem if they can jump on counter tops or desks. Recommend securing these types of pets in a separate room or basement or going without motion detection and supplementing with Glass Break detectors and Window Contacts. This is a good option when securing a premise and no one is there when armed. Another option is to use a Keypad in the master bedroom or on a 2nd floor where all the bedrooms are located and arm in the Away or Night Stay mode to secure your home in its maximum setting while sleeping at night. Just remember to disarm before leaving the bedroom or going down the stairs.
Simply put, the easiest cost effective way to secure an area as one device can cover a large room without the need for glass break detectors and multiple window contacts.
OUTDOOR MOTION SENSORS
Ideal solution for outdoor motion detection. They alert you about movement in the perimeter area you want. Excellent for pool areas, driveway activity, sheds and other structures.
DOOR CONTACTS
Typical installations are designed with the perimeter of the premise in mind. All perimeter doors are secured for the ability to utilize the Arm to Stay feature. Can either be wireless or hardwired depending on the application.
WINDOW CONTACTS
Used in conjunction with Glass Break Detectors when motion detection is not an option due to pets or for the preference of having maximum security while in the home without the worry of accidentally triggering a motion detector.
GLASS BREAK DETECTORS
An acoustic device mounted in a room designed to listen for the high frequency sound of a window shattering combined with the low frequency sound of the initial hit thus triggering an alarm when the system is armed. Typically used in conjunction with Window Contacts when Motion Detection is not an option.
LOW TEMPERATURE
All low temperature sensors are programmed as 24 hour auxiliary devices and will alarm regardless of the armed state of the security system. Fixed temperature sensors are set to trigger an alarm should the ambient temperature drop to 40 degrees due to furnace failure. These are inexpensive items that can easily prevent extensive water damage by a burst water pipe.
Digital temperature sensors can be programmed to a preferred set point typically set to a minimum of 10 degrees lower than your thermostat set at its lowest point when you’re away.
Our wireless low temperature sensors can also be wired in conjunction with a flood sensor mounted on the floor of a basement utility room or a laundry room where a potential water leak may occur.
FLOOD SENSORS
Damage resulting from broken water pipes is the number one home insurance claim. Being notified upon the detection of water or the danger of frozen pipes can minimize damages or even circumvent them.
ASSET PROTECTION
A device designed to guard against theft. It easily affixes to any valuable requiring protection including paintings, flat screen TVs and other electronics, family heirlooms, safes, machinery, equipment and more.
FIRE
All fire detection is programmed as a 24 hour zone and will alarm regardless of the armed state of the security system.
Photoelectric smoke detectors designed to trigger upon the detection of smoke on premise. Typical installation design is to locate a minimum of one smoke detector on each floor and one in every bedroom of a premise.
Fixed temp and Rate of Rise heat detectors are used in environments not recommended for a smoke detector such as cellars, attics, garages or any rooms with a wood burning stove.
CARBON MONOXIDE
All gas detection is programmed as a 24 hour zone and will alarm regardless of the armed state of the security system.
Used to detect traces of poisonous carbon monoxide gas emitted from a faulty or blocked exhaust vent of a heating unit or gas powered appliance. Typical installations are locating one detector outside of any sleeping rooms.
GAS DETECTION
All gas detection is programmed as a 24 hour zone and will alarm regardless of the armed state of the security system.
Used to detect traces of poisonous liquid propane or natural gas emitted from a faulty heating unit or gas powered appliance.
Note: L.P. gas detectors are mounted closer to the floor as propane is heavier than air and will fall to the floor. Natural gas is the opposite and will rise so a gas detector installed in a premise with natural gas will be located closer to the ceiling.
ARMING LEVELS
Our systems have the ability to arm in different levels.
ARMED AWAY
Used for maximum protection to include motion detection.
AWAY Mode – Arms Entire System:
- Used when nobody will be staying inside.
- The entire system (interior motion and perimeter) is armed.
- Exit delay begins letting you leave through the entry/exit door.
- An alarm sounds if a protected window or any door is opened, or if any movement is detected inside your premises.
- You can re-enter through an entry/exit door, but you must disarm the system within the entry delay period to avoid sounding an alarm.
ARMED TO STAY
STAY Mode – Arms Perimeter Only:
- Used when you want to arm the system with persons staying inside (or if you have pets that are moving throughout the premises).
- The perimeter sensors are armed, but interior motion sensors are left disarmed.
- Exit delay begins (you can leave through the entry/exit door, if desired).
- An alarm sounds if any protected window or non-entry/exit door is opened.
- You may otherwise move freely within the premises.
- Persons entering later can enter through an entry/exit door, but they must disarm the system within the entry delay period to avoid sounding an alarm.
DISARMED
All burglary devices are disarmed except for all 24 hour auxiliary life safety devices such as smoke, C.O., gas and temperature / environmental devices.
WIRELESS SYSTEMS
– QOLSYS SECURITY
–
- Ease of Installation – Requires less time to install.
- Removal / Relocation – The units can be easily removed and relocated.
- Cost – The reduced time needed to complete an installation, may, in some cases, result in a lower installation cost.
Technological breakthroughs have led to the development of wireless electronic security products, and their effectiveness has been proven time and again over the years in millions of installations. Their rock-solid stability and long battery life make them a popular choice among homeowners and dealers alike. They give installers the flexibility they need to overcome obstacles like brick walls, cement floors and cathedral ceilings; and no drilling holes preserves the beauty of your home and results in cleaner, faster installations.
HARDWIRED SYSTEMS
These systems have a wire going to every window, door, motion, fire and other sensors. For this reason they are very difficult to install in existing structures. Hard wired systems are usually best for pre-construction houses. One benefit to having a hard-wired system is that when you go to resell your home, this can be a great selling feature.
MEANS OF COMMUNICATION
STANDARD PHONE LINE
Over the years the most popular means of transmitting alarm signals to the Central Monitoring Station was through the premises phone line. Advances in technology have now offered new means of communication and have caused many households to do away with a land line all together.
INTERNET COMMUNICATION (IP)
The advent of the internet has now allowed new ways to transmit alarm signals and gain more control off your system even from offsite through a remote computer or even with smart phone technology such as Total Connect service also provided by Enhanced Digital Systems.
CELLULAR BACKUP

LTE & IP Internet, Alarm Communications
Lastly, a wireless cellular back up gives you the freedom of complete alarm transmission without the worry of losing phone or Internet service. This service ensures that all signals will be transmitted.
